Food Review / Jakarta / 18 Apr 2026

August is still one of Jakarta’s easiest special-occasion yeses.

Need a fine dining place in Jakarta for a date or a birthday? August still holds up. Third visit for me, and it’s still polished, intimate and worth dressing up for, without being stiff.

Expensive but still worth it. Good all the way through: no weak dish, no rushing, and service that stayed warm instead of formal just to be formal.

Warm dining room interior at August Jakarta during dinner service
Still intimate and homey, not intimidating. Big reason I keep recommending it for dates and birthdays.

Some fine dining places wow you once and then get harder to justify. Not August. It’s still satisfying even when you already know the bar is high.

Third visit, on 18 Apr 2026. Being my third, I was checking whether it still felt exciting or I was just going back for the name. It still landed.

Quick version if you’re choosing where to book: modern Indonesian fine dining, polished and expensive, but warm enough that you can relax.

August is easy to recommend. The room, the service and the menu do all the work.

Why I keep going back

Personal Review

Modern Indonesian tasting menu. Warm, not stiff

When someone asks me for a fine dining spot in Jakarta that’s impressive but not cold, August is an easy answer. The room is intimate and homey. The pacing leaves time to actually talk. The service is hospitable, not overly formal.

Date nights are where August works best. Polished, not intimidating. Expensive, yes, but it makes sense once the set menu gets going and every course feels thought through.

Teh Kotak is the one I kept thinking about after. Playful, familiar, very August: fancy, but still tasting like home. The BTM Noodle was comfort food, just sharper and more dressed up. The striploin was the big main-course moment you want from a special dinner.

Worth it? Yes. For a birthday, anniversary or a date you want to get right in Jakarta, August still belongs near the top of the list. It gets both the food and the mood right.

Disclosure: I paid for this meal in full. Nothing here was hosted, comped, or discounted.

Order Expectation

Come for the full set menu. This isn’t a one-plate-and-out place.

Best Bites

Teh Kotak, BTM Noodle, and striploin are the ones I’d happily keep talking about.

Expensive, but worth it when the room, service and food all work this well.

What the meal looked like

Small bites first, then the dishes that made the booking worth it

Good pacing for a date night. A build-up at the start, room to breathe in the middle, a memorable finish. Never rushed, never over-managed.

The menu already gives it away: layered, modern Indonesian, and not stiff even on paper.

Standout Courses

The plates I’d tell you to watch for

If you asked me why August is a safe pick and not just a pretty set menu, I’d point at these. They show the range: playful, comforting, properly satisfying.
