What stuck
No single big meal. It was the small snacks that made the walk memorable.
Japan / Kyoto / 25 Jan 2025
Kyoto was only one day, but it stuck because it had a theme: rented kimonos, old streets, family photos, shrine gates, and snacks. Short trip, didn’t feel rushed.
One day in Kyoto: kimono rental, family photos, shrine gates and street snacks. No big sightseeing checklist.
Kyoto felt lighter than the other cities, but not smaller. The kimonos set the mood for the whole day, so even simple walks and family photos felt like a thing.
On 25 Jan we did a one-day trip to Kyoto and rented kimonos. The joke was that we’d blend in with the old streets. The best part was just seeing the whole family dressed up and walking around together.
We kept it simple on purpose. The clothes, the shrine and a few snacks were plenty. No need for a lot of stops.
Kyoto, in bits
Only three: the kimonos, the shrine and family photos, and the snacks.
The best part of Kyoto wasn’t trying to look local. It was seeing the whole family dressed up, all day.
Me, on Kyoto
25 Jan / Kyoto day trip
The kimonos made the day a bit fun and a bit formal. Even simple family photos outside wooden buildings or temple gates felt special because everyone was dressed for it.
No huge itinerary needed. The clothes, streets and shrine made every stop feel like part of the same day.
Personal take: one of the most fun family-photo days of the trip. Touristy, yes, but the good kind, and very different from the Osaka city walks.
Shrine and family photos
We didn’t need a lot of activities. With the kimonos on, temple gates, old streets and a few shrine details were enough for one day.
Snack note / Little Kyoto finds
Kyoto also had good street snacks: yaki dango grilling at a stall, fresh taiyaki, and a meat vending machine I can’t forget.
What stuck
No single big meal. It was the small snacks that made the walk memorable.
Kyoto mood
Dressed up, lots of photos, fun right down to the snack stops.
