Why It Works
Rich, warm, and hits the spot right after a travel day.
Japan / Tokyo / 26–28 Jan 2025
Tokyo was the last stop, and it pulled the whole trip together. One hotel that really overdelivered, a late lunch worth remembering, a Fuji-san day where we had to work for the view, and small breaks for shrine paths, cats, Harajuku and donuts.
Short version: where we stayed, the meal that mattered most, and the slow detours that were worth it.
Tokyo was the last big breath of the trip. Still busy, but with enough comfort, food and quiet breaks that the ending didn’t feel rushed.
On 26 Jan we flew into Tokyo from Kansai. After snowy Sapporo, loud Osaka and the Kyoto kimono day, Tokyo was the all-rounder: good meals, wandering around neighbourhoods, a comfy hotel, and little stops that made the last city feel like a proper finish.
What worked was the balance. Still big-city energy, but also slower moments: a hotel that felt like a proper reset, one meal good enough for its own food note, and a few easy detours before the trip ended.
Tokyo, in bits
Hotel, a safe lunch win, Fuji views, or slow city breaks before the trip ended. Jump to whatever you need.
Hotel highlight
The Tokyo hotel that ended up the best stay of the whole Japan trip.
26 Jan / Late lunch
Crispy beef cutlet you finish on a hot stone. One of the best first meals in Tokyo.
27 Jan / Day tour
Clouds, lake reflections, and a mountain that made us wait for every clear moment.
28 Jan / Indoor pause
Slow Shibuya stop. Warm light, manga shelves, cats in charge.
28 Jan / Shrine walk
Green and calm. Sake barrels, ema wishes, the quiet side of Tokyo.
28 Jan / Snack finish
Mirror buildings, sunset, and a stop at I’m donut? that was too fun to leave out.
Tokyo worked because it did a bit of everything. A hotel that made the city easier, food good enough for its own note, and enough quiet breaks to end the trip properly.
Me, on Tokyo
Tokyo Stay / Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel
In Tokyo we stayed at Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel, and it was the best hotel of the whole Japan trip. It’s on the older side, but that didn’t matter. Big room, really useful facilities, and a comfy base for the last city.
The gym stood out most. Properly equipped, not a token hotel corner. After several cities of moving around, that mattered more than a newer-looking room would have.
The extra hotel photos are from the official Cerulean Tower Tokyu Hotel site.
Personal take: older hotel, but big rooms and good facilities. If you want comfort at the end of a busy Japan trip, this was the best stay we had.
26 Jan / Late Lunch / Gyukatsu Motomura
After landing we had a late lunch at Gyukatsu Motomura. Exactly the first meal I want after changing cities: simple, filling, memorable, no big plan needed. Crispy beef cutlet, small sides, rice bowls, and a hot stone that keeps you busy.
Why It Works
Rich, warm, and hits the spot right after a travel day.
Best Detail
The hot stone on the table lets you finish each bite how you like it.
NutNibbles Take
Best gyukatsu of the trip. The first Tokyo meal I’d send people to.
27 Jan / Fuji-san 1 Day Tour
On 27 Jan we joined a one-day tour to hunt for Fuji-san pictures. Cloudy weather, clouds moving around the mountain, so no guaranteed postcard. Mostly waiting for a gap.
Even with the peak hiding, Fuji-san looked dramatic. Snow, dark clouds, village rooftops, lake reflections, sudden clear moments. Every stop showed a slightly different mountain.
Personal take: fun photo day. The clouds made it less predictable, but every clear view felt earned. Treat it as a scenic day out. The perfect Fuji shot is a bonus.
28 Jan / Shibuya Cat Lounge MOCHA
On 28 Jan we went to Shibuya Cat Lounge MOCHA. After the big sightseeing days it was a calm indoor break: warm lights, lots of wood, manga shelves, and cats acting like they owned the place.
What stood out
Feeding time pulled the whole room into one calm little circle. No chaotic tourist crowd.
NutNibbles take
Cute and easy. Good Shibuya stop when we wanted something slower between plans.
28 Jan / Meiji Jingu, Harajuku, and I'm donut?
Later on 28 Jan we went from cats to a walk around Meiji Jingu. Peaceful and roomy, with sake barrels, tall trees and wooden ema prayers. Quiet enough that the city felt much farther away than it was.
The ema area is what I remember most. Lots of small wishes hanging under the sacred tree, ours included.
Then Harajuku and Omotesando brought the city back: shiny buildings, sunset, and a snack mission at I’m donut? Tokyo walks are better with a snack goal.
Snack note: I’m donut? had a fun menu and a beautiful display. Sweet custard ones, plus savoury ones like prosciutto and teriyaki egg.
